Part Time Plumbing Inspector

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs field inspections and plan review of all plumbing installations in residential and commercial buildings for compliance with the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code and other applicable ordinances and laws.
• Performs on site plumbing inspections of plumbing systems and fixtures to ensure work proceeds in accordance with approved plans on construction projects and existing buildings for conformance with the minimum safety standards under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code and other applicable ordinances and laws.
• Performs occasional plan review for compliance with the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.
• Examines plumbing projects for defects, omissions, violations and other departures from correct procedure; provides recommendations and suggestions to contractors or owners regarding changes necessary to bring establishment to code requirements
• Receives and examines plans for plumbing work within the Township
• Notifies the Plumbing Sub-code Official of violations or unsafe structures.
• Prepares reports on inspection results and logs results into computer system under the direction of the Plumbing Sub-code Official.
• Reviews complaints concerning alleged violations of plumbing codes and advises corrective action
• Reviews plumbing permit applications and verifies payment of fees
• At times, under the direction of the Plumbing Sub-Code Official and/or Construction Official, will have to interact with architects, engineers, contractors and applicants to discuss and resolve, if possible, all issues related to building projects.
• Responds to requests for information from the public under the direction of the Plumbing Sub-code Official.
• Maintains accurate records of plumbing inspection activity and completes related reports Ability to comprehend and interpret relevant Codes, rulings, policies and procedures;
• Able to comprehend and interpret relevant Codes, rulings, policies and procedures; and explain inspection results and required corrections both verbally and in writing;
• Will be required to learn all Departmental processes and policies for inspection requirements.
• Performs related work as required and other job duties as assigned.

• A valid NJ Driver’s License and NJ residency are required/unless exempted.

Required Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:

New Jersey Uniform Construction Code regulations;

Plumbing installation methods and materials;

Basic understanding of normal office work programs including MS Office Suite
