Property Taxes

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

Second quarter taxes are due May 1, 2024.  The grace period runs to the end of business day on Friday, May 10.  Second quarter payments received after May 10 will be charged interest from May 1.  Please note that all drop box payments will be considered next business day.  All Friday drop box payments will be considered received Monday and therefore will be charged interest.

Your tax bill may be viewed and paid through the Make a Payment page. There is a drop box located in front of the municipal building at 100 Community Drive. Mailed checks must reach the township by the end of grace period to be considered on time. Please do not place any cash in the drop box.

Taxes are paid at the tax collector’s office or by online payment. Tax bills are payable quarterly typically on the 1st day of February, May, August and November, after which date they are delinquent and subject to interest. Interest will typically be charged on all payments made more than ten (10) days after the due date (see above exception of delay on our part).

A payment will not be applied towards an account until it is in physical possession of the Township, regardless of postmarked date. If mailing your payment, allow sufficient time for the mail to arrive prior to end of grace period to avoid interest charges.

Furthermore, since the Township of Montgomery must deposit all checks that are received within 48 hours of receipt as required by New Jersey State Statute, the Township cannot hold any checks for a period of time; hence, the Township cannot accept postdated checks. Thank you for your understanding.

Unpaid taxes remaining by the 1st day of February, May, August or November are subject to interest at the rate of 8% per annum up to $1500.00 and 18% per annum over $1500.00. Once the 18% per annum has been established, it will remain at 18% until the outstanding amount is zero. Montgomery Township provides a 10 day grace period for payment of taxes. However, if the 10 day grace period is exceeded, the interest accrues from the 1st of the month that the payment is due. A penalty of 6% will be charged on any delinquency in excess of $10,000.00 if not paid by the end of the fiscal year.

Tax Deductions:

Senior citizen and veteran’s deductions require an application from the Tax Assessor’s office.
