Pet Waste Regulations

This ordinance basically restricts pets from defecating on public property or private property, without the approval of the owner. The owner or keeper of any pet that does defecate and any public or private property must immediately pick up the feces or droppings. The feces or droppings must be discarded in an acceptable trash receptacle or flushed down an acceptable toilet.

This ordinance is designed to keep pet feces or droppings from being washed into the municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4), where it would cause pollution of our waterways.

Ordinance

Restricts pet owners or keepers from allowing their pets to soil, defile, or defecate on any common thoroughfare, street, sidewalk, passageway, road bypass, play area, park, or any place where people congregate or walk upon any public property whatsoever, or upon any private property without the permission of the private property owner. If any pet owners or keepers do allow their pet to soil, defile, or defecate on any of the above areas, they must immediately remove the pet feces and droppings. The feces and droppings must be disposed of properly. Proper disposal is defined as placement of pet feces or droppings in a designated waste receptacle, or other suitable waste containers, and discarded in a refuse container that is regularly emptied by the township or some other refuse collector, or disposal into a system designed to convey domestic sewage for proper treatment and disposal (ie. toilet).
