The new Montgomery Municipal Center is located just west of the intersection of Orchard Road and Route 206, near our schools and shopping district. Here are some highlights:
- 62,500 square feet total, including the Somerset County Library Branch of 20,000 square feet.
- Library and Police Dept. on first floor. All other municipal offices on second floor.
- The Library Branch includes small study rooms, a conference room, a children’s section, a lounge area for parents and casual readers, a sound proof studio for podcasting and recordings and lockers outside for after-hours pick-up of books via a code sent to mobile phone or device.
- Eleven formal meeting rooms, with the largest accommodating 100 people.
- Space for community artwork and items of historical and cultural importance included inside the building.
- Council chambers are open and airy with glass entranceway. The roofline here evokes the stature of a gable barn, reflecting Montgomery’s agricultural heritage.
- Stone, wood, and glass exterior. Natural colors in a contemporary style.
- The project includes green space around the building, an events plaza, and rain garden.
- Design by DMR Architect of Hasbrouk Heights, NJ and construction by Debco Inc. of Wayne, NJ.
- 45-acre site of the former ConvaTec corporate offices, purchased for $5.9M by Somerset Cty. Improvement Authority.
- Montgomery’s $30-year loan of $35 million has an interest rate of 1.75%.
- $5.375 million in state library funds received, offsetting costs.
